Snapshots of Me

Facilitators: Melinda Howell, Angela Myers, Glenna Rasco, and Beckie Thrash

Overview
Grab a camera and snap your way through the many creative and emotional facets that make you, you! Let’s express ourselves through different media and manipulatives to discover that there could never be a more beautiful you. After all, there is only one you!

Mission
Every student deserves to have a positive self-image of him or herself through the use of creative expression.

Learning Experiences:
• Introduction to photography, realistic art, and abstract art through a power point presentation.
• Photographing nature/environment/people-Join us as we look for items in nature that represent yourself, take a photo, and then complete a reflective writing about how you see yourself through the item. Come take a photo, in the style of the paparazzi, of individuals on WCU campus. Then discuss the ethics involved in these type photos.
• Clay/abstract sculptures- Come create an original clay sculpture, photograph it, and name it. Then discuss abstract art and how it relates to your emotions.
• Mural- Listen to a book of simple things that discusses how colors can make you feel. Then you can respond to your emotions through music and painting.
• Head shot- Examine a headshot of yourself that we can take first thing in the morning. While listening to Beautiful You, you can write four words at the bottom of your picture that describe what you think is beautiful about yourself. Finally, you can write words that describe what you think about yourself on the inside, and create a collage of the words.
• Visit and speak with two professional photographers.
• Create your own portfolio using the pictures taken at the workshop.
