Rebirth
Of The Future: Renaissance

Overview
Enter the time machine into the past. Experience the rebirth of
the future through the lens of the Renaissance. Discover how this
period of history (technology, science, architecture, games, art, and
society) evolved and developed through modern times.
Mission
Students, through the study of the Renaissance, will examine how the
past continues to have an impact on creating our futures.

• Why did the Renaissance impact other
societies? (past and present).
• How has the Renaissance impacted our society
in this day and time?

Principles
• The Renaissance Period was a rebirth of
knowledge (art, events, and learning).
• Over time, societies evolved.
• Many people played many different roles during
the Renaissance Period.
• The need for Renaissance in today’s
society.

Experiences
Day 1:
Introduction Activity:
When students enter, the lights will be out. Students will list 10 ways
that technology has affected them. Students will complete a
pre-test on the Renaissance to determine prior knowledge. Students will
complete a Renaissance Personality Assessment to determine what kind of
Renaissance person he/she is.
Overview of Renaissance:
Students will view a power point presentation on the Renaissance.
Students will discuss various evolvements in science, technology,
architecture, drama, art, etc.
Black Plague:
Students will discuss diseases and their origins. Students will then
role play on Black Plague. Students will view a power point on
the Black Plague. Students will then create their own Renaissance
version of an air freshener (sachets/pomades). Students will research
diseases and connect Yellow Fever, Typhoid, AIDS, Bird Flu, etc and
what has been learned through our tragedies in history.
Creations/Inventions:
Students will discuss evolvement of science and technology and then
will devise their own personal inventions and present them to their
peers. Students will learn about various inventors such as Thomas
Edison, William Caxton, etc. and introduced to scientific method and
patterns.
Writing Experience:
Students will write a short summary on the comparisons between
Renaissance and Modern Inventions.
Day 2:
Students will discuss and view various art pieces from the Renaissance
Era. Students will create their own egg tempera paint which they will
use to paint their own Renaissance masterpiece on student created
parchment paper.
Power point on Renaissance drama and theater. Students will
discuss how masks have evolved since the Renaissance to today
(Avatar). Students will design their own Avatar mask.
Students will view a piece of Renaissance art and compare and contrast.
Students will participate interactive Leonardo DaVinci
exploration. Students will research Renaissance artists via the
computer and write a summary and present their findings. Students
will given an option on presenting their inventions and masks to the
class.
Day 3:
Students will discuss different games of the Renaissance and how they
have changed and evolved up to modern day. Students will engage
in different Renaissance games outside.
Students will listen to various types of Renaissance music.
Students will view a power point on Renaissance/modern
instruments. Students will create their own Renaissance
instrument.
Students will create their own personal Renaissance shield, write a
summary of their 3 day experience, present all items to parents via an
art exhibit.
